The Bible says in Psalm 107:1-2 that "O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever" I encourage you not to forget to give thanks to God in spite of what you are going through in life. We are not supposed to thank God only when things are going smooth or good with us. No! Jesus gave thanks to His Father in heaven at every place or point in life. He one time gave thanks to God at the grave of Lazarus, the brother to Martha such that God was pleased. That is why He perpetually saw the glory of God in his life and ministry. So, to see the glory of God you need to be thankful to God in spite of circumstances in your life.
The anointing or power that raised Lazarus from the dead was put into motion by the act of thanksgiving. The Bible says in John 11: 39-41 that:
"Jesus said, take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, father, I THANK thee that thou hast heard me"
Likewise, there was a time in the Bible when the anointing for supernatural abundance or increase was put into motion by the power of thanksgiving. Matthew 15:36-37 records by saying, "And he (Jesus) took the seven loaves and the fishes, and GAVE THANKS, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full"
You see, we have many reasons why we should thank God for even when things are on in our favour or expectation.
- REASON # (1) FOR GIVING THANKS TO GOD
God has done much for you and me for the fact that he saved us from the kingdom of darkness by his grace not our effort. He has done much for us for the very fact that we are alive today. He has saved us from hell or eternal doom without paying for it except for His mercy's sake. He has always protected us from unseen forces sent to harm our lives for no reason.
- REASON # (2) FOR GIVING THANKS TO GOD
Psalm 136:1 says "O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever". So, the second reason why we do not have option, but to give thanks to God is because of his everlasting goodness towards us and His creation. God is so good to us such that we don't need to see anything for us to be encouraged to thank Him. He is so good such that he has given us life today and food.
- REASON # (3) FOR GIVING THANKS TO GOD
In Psalm 136:1, we are told that give thanks to the LORD his mercy endureth for ever. The third reason for giving thanks to God is because of his everlasting mercy towards us. God is so merciful such that we are preserved from destruction in life. His mercy is a strong covering for us from satanic oppression and traps. The Bible says in Psalm 103:8 that "The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy" His everlasting mercy towards us, the seed of Abraham, deserves thanksgiving from us. God is so good to us!
And, then Psalm 100:1-5 say "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generation"
